Instead of remaining in hospital, the patient will be visited by Ashford Hospital nurses at home. HITH is a direct substitute for in–hospital care, and is billed to the health funds in the same way as a hospital admission.

Diabetes Services
Ashford Diabetes Service has a Credentialed Diabetes Educator:
- Wendy Martin (BSa, RN, CDE)
In-patient care involves education of newly diagnosed patients, those admitted with diabetes related illness and/or patients changing treatment regime.
Our out-patient service assesses and reviews over individuals referred by endocrinologists, GPs, obstetricians, nursing services and self-referral. We have agreements with the majority of health funds with no out of pocket expense to the client.
A new Medicare initiative, Enhanced Primary Care plans, allow GPs to refer public patients to this service.
An area of growth is insulin pump commencement. People with Type 1 diabetes are usually covered for this prosthesis and require out patient work-up and an in patient admission for stabilisation.
For further information on this service, please contact our dedicated Diabetes Educators listed above on (08) 8375 5222.
