Information for Overnight Patients
Admission
Your hospital admission will be arranged by your doctor who will inform you on what day you need to come to hospital.
On your admission day, please report to the Main Reception Desk in the front foyer. From here you will be escorted to your room where a nursing staff member will explain your nursing care, orientate you to the ward and explain the ward routine.
Anaesthetic Assessment
Your surgeon will advise you of the arrangements to see your anaesthetist.
Accommodation
At the time of admission, your bed will have been allocated on the basis of clinical need and bed availability.
Ashford Hospital has a high percentage of private rooms but as we do have a few share rooms, it will not always be possible to provide you with a private room. As a consequence, we reserve the right to allocate beds at our discretion.
Discharge
Discharge time is at 10.00am.
We ask that you make arrangements to be picked up accordingly. If you are unable to leave hospital at this time, you may be asked to vacate your room and wait in another area.
Medication
Please bring with you any prescribed medication in their original packaging and give to the ward staff on admission. Your medication will be given to you by the nursing staff as ordered by your doctor. Any unused medication will be returned to you on discharge.
Ask your doctor if you should take your regular medication on the morning of surgery.
In the interest of safety, please do not keep any medication (even Panadol etc) in your locker or on your person.
Dietary Requirements
Please advise your hospital of any special dietary requirements prior to your admission.
Boarding Facilities and Fees
Boarding fees of up to $100 per night may apply. Boarding facilities are subject to availability. For children under 12, arrangements can be made for one parent to be accommodated with their child at no charge.
Valuables
Patients are strongly advised not to bring valuables, jewellery or excessive sums of money to hospital. ACHA does not accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal property. Secure facilities at each hospital are available on request.
