General Information for Patients & Visitors

 

Visiting Hours

Ashford Hospital understands how important visitors are to making your stay more enjoyable. However, in the interest of patient wellbeing, the need for rest to assist healing, the impact on other patients and security issues, there are set visiting times:

General Wards

  • 11:00am to 8:00pm

Critical Care Unit

  • 11:00am to 1:30pm & 3:30pm to 8:00pm
  • No visitors between 1:30pm and 3:30pm please, to allow patients to rest

 

Ashford Hospital Cafe

A selection of food snacks and beverages are available from the Ashford Hospital Cafe located on the ground floor.

Just a tea or a coffee?
Tea and coffee making facilities are available in all ward areas for the convenience of both patients and visitors.

  

Telephones

All patient rooms are equipped with bedside telephones and local calls can be made free of charge.

Mobile, STD and ISD calls can be made using phone cards, which are available for purchase at each hospital's admission/reception desk. They are available in $5, $10 and $20 denominations.

Please ensure you bring appropriate money with you to hospital to cover your needs. The use of mobile telephones may be restricted in some areas.

 

Televisions and Radios

Televisions and radios are provided at each bedside.

 

Chaplaincy

A chaplaincy service forms an important part of our health care team. Please ask the ward staff for contact details.

 

Interpreter

An accredited interpreter service can be arranged where deemed necessary.

 

X-Rays

X-Rays remain the property of the patient and are to be taken home by the patient on discharge.  Ashford Hospital does not keep x-ray films or scans and does not accept responsibility following the patient’s discharge.

 

Valuables and Money

Patients are strongly advised not to bring valuables, jewellery or excessive sums of money to hospital. Ashford Hospital does not accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal property.  Secure facilities at each hospital are available on request.

 

Car Parking

Car Parking is available at a cost to the user in the multi-storey Ashford Hospital car park ,accessed from Everard Avenue.

 

Driving

Ashford Hospital advises against driving a motor vehicle for 24 hours following an anaesthetic. Motor vehicle insurance policies may be void in the event of an accident.  It is also recommended that you don’t use any dangerous machinery or tools, make important decisions, sign legal documents or drink alcohol for at least 24 hours following surgery.

 

ACHA Foundation

The ACHA Foundation raises funds to help continually improve the quality of medical equipment, facilities and services in the three ACHA Health hospitals; Ashford, The Memorial and Flinders Private Hospitals. Donations are tax deductible; envelopes are available from hospital reception or wards.

Patient Feedback

Patient feedback is important to Ashford Hospital and we encourage all patients to tell us how they feel about our level of customer service, our facilities and our staff. A 'Praise, Complaints & Suggestions' form will be made available to you during your stay.  Should you have any concerns about any aspect of our service or facilities while you are in hospital, please ask to speak to the Clinical Manager of your ward so that we can assist you as soon as possible.

 

Hospital in the Home

The Hospital in the Home (HITH) programme offers eligible patients, in collaboration with their doctor, the opportunity to continue care at home and receive hospital treatment in familiar surroundings for the normal period of a hospital admission.  Daily visits to HITH patients are undertaken by ACHA nursing staff, during which their condition is fully assessed.  HITH patients are regarded as inpatients of the hospital but their planned treatment can be delivered in the home.  For further information please speak with your treating Doctor or contact the HITH Coordinator on 8375 5917.

 

Ashford Hospital Occupational Health and Safety and Environment Policy

Smoking

Smoking is NOT permitted in Ashford Hospital.
